Nervous System Practices

Grounding Movement

A gentle movement sequence to support self-regulation and present-moment safety.

  1. Begin standing or seated with your feet grounded and your spine upright.

  2. Swaying & Rocking: Gently sway side-to-side or front-to-back. Let the movement be slow and natural, like being rocked.

  3. Stretching: Move slowly and intuitively, reaching your arms, rolling your neck, folding forward, or any movement your body asks for. Move slowly and breathe into areas that feel tight or restricted.

  4. Hands on Body: Gently place your hands on your body, somewhere grounding such as heart, chest, belly, or things — wherever feels good. Notice what feels grounding for you.

  5. Orienting: To close, slowly look around your space. Let your gaze land on one object at a time. Notice color, shape, and texture. This helps signal safety and presence.
